Maui luau shows incorporate food, dance and drink. The Luau is a large part of Hawaiian culture and is shared in many ways to its guests that visit the Islands of Hawaii. One of the main focuses of a Luau is the kalua pork. This is a pig that has been steamed all day long. In the early hours of the morning, a pit is dug. This is officially called an imu. It is then filled with river rocks and branches. The fire pit is lit which heats the stones. After heated, they add ti leaves, banana stalks and banana leaves. The pig is also placed in at that time. After all day of cooking, it is “released” at a certain part of the ceremony and is the main dish for the guests. Other dishes include chicken long rice, lomi lomi salmon and more. Music and dance make up the other main focus of the Maui luau shows. Most of these Maui luau shows are very distinct and based upon the Hawaiian culture. They feature the Hula dance as well as other unique dances that are strictly related to Hawaii. This includes the infamous fire dances. Luau’s can often time be a romantic evening for a couple.
