If you are looking for whales, the Hawaii Big Island is the best spot for it! The Big Island of Hawaii has a lot more in the way of whale watching than the other islands because it includes more than one species of whale. Although, like the other islands, it shares its home seasonally with the Humpback whales, it also has additions such as Sperm Whales, Pygmy Whales, Pilot Whales, Melon Headed Whales, Killer whales and even beaked whales which are very rare! If you are looking for that ever famous Humpback whale, you will want to visit in the months of December through April. This will be your best chance to see them because they travel all the way from Alaska to mate and give birth. You might even see a baby which its mother, which is really not so little growing at nearly 100 pounds a day! There is a whale watching trip for all budgets, usually ranging from as low as $50.00 to as high as $675.00 or more. Just remember when you book your trip, whale watching is best done in the morning because the ocean does not have many waves, if any and in turn makes the whales a lot easier to spot. If you plan to bring children, make sure you go on a larger boat so they have plenty of room to run around. Child just love whale watching trips! The best part is, they are about half the price as an adult fare. |
