Tiki torches, table skirts that resemble a hula skirt, and lots of palm trees and tropical flowers all around is the perfect atmosphere for a Luau party. When planning this type of party, be sure not to skimp on anything that has to do with tropical paradise.

Orchids on display will beautify any setting. And their scent will make it seem like you are truly in paradise. Palm trees should tower over guests, as well. But these items can also be imitations and work almost as well. After all, not everyone lives in paradise or in an area where there are many palm trees in the backyard. So, even if you are using a patio deck for the party, fake palm trees and orchids all around are quite acceptable.

Tiki torches can really add to the ambiance as the sun sets on your gathering. So, place them around the area in a way that they will each have a designated place to light up. There may be a couple around a buffet or snack area, and others around an area where everyone will be sitting and chatting. Candles on a table in the midst of the party is also a nice touch. And if there will be mosquitos or other pests, you may want to try citronella candles.

Party supplies and favors will also be important in the planning of your luau party. Melons can act as vessels to hold smaller fruit and cut up pieces of other melons, mangos, and pineapple. A pig that is generally roasted underground takes place at a real luau. But if this is going to be in your backyard, you will probably prepare the pork indoors or on the barbeque.

Be sure to have prizes and giveaways for your guests. If it is an adult gathering, perhaps a joke prize can be a coconut bra. Or they may even win a hula skirt in a hula dancing contest.
